Over 40 Ayrshire jobs have been lost as Scottish based department store Watt Brothers has entered administration.
Blair Nimmo and Alistair McAlinden of KPMG have been appointed joint administrators. 10 of the 11 stores have been closed with immediate effect, with 229 of its 306 employees made redundant.
The store closures include those in Irvine and Ayr, with the flagship store in Glasgow remaining open temporarily to help sell off any remaining stock.
The sudden closure has caught many customers off guard. The shutters were pulled down on the stores on Ayr High Street and Rivergate Shopping Centre in Irvine earlier this morning.
The news is a further blow to Ayrshire which follows a trend across the UK of struggling retail businesses.
