Traffic on the M77 was temporarily brought to a standstill this evening (24th Oct 2019) as a large fire broke out on a lorry on a section of the northbound carriageway.

Emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle fire around 5:40pm this evening on the M77 northbound between Fenwick and Kingswell (Galston).

Glasgow bound traffic was brought to a halt whilst Kilmarnock bound traffic built heavily due to the smoke. Both sides of the road were closed for a very short period, affecting rush hour traffic.

Lane 2 of 2 northbound and all southbound lanes were quickly reopened once fire and rescue officers brought the blaze under control. Two fire engines and police were seen in attendance.

There are no reports of any injuries and the road has since fully reopened.
